Psycho Cybernetics -

How a cosmetic surgery can be done not only on your outside but on your inside too!

Psycho Cybernetics is a self transformation method discovered by Maxwell Maltz, a cosmetic surgeon in 1960. Since its discovery, through word of mouth alone it has sold over 30 million copies.

It may seem weird that a cosmetic surgeon has anything to do with self development. Now how did he stumble on this great discovery?

Let me tell you a story.

The story of a starving FAT girl

Have you ever watched TV, or maybe know of someone, who is obviously underweight or should I say wilted to 'skin and bones' who go on starving themselves till their body can't take it anymore and ended up in hospital.

After that person is revived, do they still refuse to eat, even though they are told that they could die?

They refused to eat because they think 'I am fat!' and there's a medical term for this condition - Anorexic. You might watch in disbelief as I am at that frame of bones covered in skin, and that person can still say 'I am fat!'.

How's that?

You will be how you see yourself to be

This is exactly what Maxwell discovered. He was amazed when, after he had performed some impressive reconstruction procedures, patients would complain they couldn't see the difference! 'I still feel ugly'.

Thus, the concept central to Psycho Cybernetics of the 'self image' is born. The 'self image' is a mental picture of how a person sees themselves.

It includes our beliefs about ourself, whether we are popular or not, or whether we are a success or a failure.

Behaviours will not change unless those beliefs are changed.

Example, Jane had a traumatic automobile accident when she was driving. She may then see herself as a 'bad driver' and will refuse to drive, until that self-image is changed.

Psycho Cybernetics uses relaxation and visualization to change the belief of a person. Maxwell likens a person's brain to a computer, which needs to be programmed for optimal performance.

I'm still reading the excellent book and am slowly digesting the gist of the ideas mentioned, so I cannot vouch for it's efficacy. However, the no nonsense and common sense approach adopted by Maxwell tells me that there could possibly be some truth in his methods.

Millions have already benefited from Psycho Cybernetics, why not give it a try?
