Would relaxation sound calm the 'Savage beast' in you?

Relaxation sound includes relaxation music, mood music or meditation music.

Many Claim that they have the effect of calming down and modifying the mood of a person.

Now why does sound or music have this effect on us?

Does it really work?

Or perhaps you are little sceptical?

Ok maybe you could answer that question for yourself.

Let me ask you...

Have you ever tried listening to heavy metal music and can't help but felt that your heartbeat has significantly increased without you noticing? You might also have felt your adrenalin surging and felt 'edgier', like you will react to the slightest provocation?

Now think back to those times when you are listening to Muzac in shopping malls or classical music. Do you find that your mood is totally different from those of listening to heavy metal music?

Such is the power of music.

You have just proven to yourself that it certainly has the power to affect your state of mind.

Amazing developments of using sound and music

Superlearning is a system of enhanced learning that is able to make use of specific type of music to enhance the learning abilities of a person, these include areas like language learning, skill learning as well as academic studies. It was discovered by Ostrander & Schroeder in Russia and promoted to the West.

Another interesting study is 'The Mozart Effect', discovered by Dr. Alfred Tomatis in France in the late 1950s. It is the method of enhancing learning in a child by using classical music, this is said to have the ability of raising the intelligence of the user. See 'Mozart Effect' albums here.

Music calms the savage beast?

My speculation is that the musical beats or rhythm inherent in the particular music used, has the ability of affecting the brainwaves, thus exerting a certain reaction or change in our brainwaves and in turn affects our thinking.

Personally, I have used relaxation music and found that they are useful in producing that calming effect. Just like the saying 'music calms the savage beast', I guess there's truth in it.
