Time Management Part 5. If the Task is Too Big, Break it Down!
Do you ever get stressed by the sheer amount of work and tasks to be done from day to day? Do you feel that 24 hours in a day is simply too short a time to get things done?
You are not alone! As our society progresses and the pace of life quickens, time is the most precious and scarce commodity. Whether it is things from work or personal stuffs that needs to be done, all you need is to know how to prioritise and organise yourself to get things done right.
You would be surprised that a few simple tips wll provide you with the tools necessary to accomplish more in less time and of course reduce your stress level at the same time!
In the fifth part of this series, we will take a look at Beating hesitation and procrastination.
1) If you are stopped in your tracks by a huge task that seem so daunting, fret not. Break it down into several major tasks, followed by sub tasks. Doing so will give you a clearer picture of what needs to be done to complete the task, and also the smaller tasks makes it more digestible.
2) Ever get caught by fear and worry so much that you never get started on a task? Take a rational look at the task, ask yourself What is the worst case scenario for not completing the task? You will be surprised that the answer is not as bad as you had imagined.
3) As nike says 'Just Do It'. Don't think too much, just get busy. The simple act of starting can build up into an unstoppable momentum that will lead you through the completion of the task.
4) Swallow a frog! No not literally, thank goodness! It is only a way of describing doing something you detest the most first. So the effect of doing your most hated task, clears the way and everything else would seem a breeze.
5) We never hesitate to do something if it is fun and exciting. Similarly, you could inject fun into your activities. Turn it into a challenge, you could try to clock your best timing, or add other fun elements into the activity. The idea is to Jazz it up, turning a boring task to a more bearable one.
6) Imagine yourself having completed the task. Feel the sense of satisfaction and achievement that comes along. See the fruits of your labor turning into a reality. Psyche yourself up, and dive in.
